UDA party ward elections

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has postponed its ward-level elections in Mombasa County by five days, citing the ongoing presidential development tour and related official engagements.

The party’s National Elections Board (NEB) said the elections, which had been scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, will now be held on Thursday, October 8.

In a notice signed by NEB chairman Anthony Mwaura, the party said polling would take place from 8 am to 5 pm.

“The Ward-Level Elections in Mombasa County, previously scheduled for Saturday, 3rd October 2026, have been postponed,” Mwaura said.

He said the change was occasioned by the ongoing Presidential Development Tour and official engagements taking place in the county during the period.

“Accordingly, the Ward-level Elections in Mombasa County shall now be conducted on Thursday, 8th October 2026, from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.,” the notice stated.

The NEB asked all polling centre officials intending to contest for ward-level positions to take note of the revised date and make the necessary arrangements.

Party members, leaders and other stakeholders in Mombasa were also notified of the change.

The postponement comes as President William Ruto undertakes a week-long development tour of the Coast, during which he is expected to inspect and launch various government projects and programmes.

The President’s engagements in the region include infrastructure, housing and other development projects, with his tour also coinciding with preparations for the planned groundbreaking of the Sh2 trillion Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu.

UDA has been conducting grassroots-level activities as it seeks to strengthen its party structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The ward-level elections are expected to form part of the party’s efforts to fill grassroots positions and strengthen its organisational structures across the county.

The revised election date gives candidates and party officials additional time to prepare for the exercise.

The NEB said the postponement only affects the ward-level elections in Mombasa County, with the new voting date set for October 8.

Polling centre officials who intend to contest for ward-level positions have been asked to make the necessary arrangements in line with the revised timetable.

The party will conduct the elections between 8 am and 5 pm, with party members expected to participate in the exercise according to the applicable electoral arrangements.

The notice was signed by Mwaura in his capacity as chairman of the UDA National Elections Board.
