Mombasa recorded a decline in road traffic deaths and injuries in 2025 after a rise in fatalities and injuries in 2024, according to the Mombasa Road Safety Report 2025.

Deaths fell from 99 in 2024 to 84 in 2025, a reduction of 15 fatalities. The number of serious injuries also declined from 216 to 183, while minor injuries dropped sharply from 260 to 169 over the same period.

The figures show that 2024 recorded the highest number of minor injuries during the five-year period, with 260 cases. Minor injuries had stood at 197 in 2021 before falling to 185 in 2022. They then increased to 207 in 2023 and peaked at 260 in 2024, before dropping to 169 in 2025.

Serious injuries followed a similar pattern. There were 201 cases in 2021, falling to 161 in 2022 before rising to 188 in 2023 and 216 in 2024. The number declined to 183 in 2025.

Road traffic deaths increased gradually during the first four years, from 67 in 2021 to 69 in 2022, 94 in 2023 and 99 in 2024. The figure then fell to 84 in 2025.

Across the five years, the data records 413 deaths, 949 serious injuries and 1,018 minor injuries in Mombasa.

The 2025 figures therefore marked a reversal from the increases recorded between 2022 and 2024 in several categories, with deaths, serious injuries and minor injuries all recording lower numbers than the previous year.
