Deputy President Kithure Kindiki addresses residents during an inspection of development projects at Thutwa trading centre in Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County, on September 29, 2026/ DPCSDeputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned contractors delaying government projects that they will be kicked out if they fail to complete the work on time.
Kindiki said contractors who were not fulfilling their agreements had no place in government projects, particularly where they had already been paid while Kenyans continued waiting for the infrastructure.
Speaking on Tuesday during an inspection of development projects in Mathira Constituency, Nyeri, Kindiki said his role was to ensure government projects were completed on time and met the required standards.
"All the lazy contractors who are slowing down the work assigned to them will be kicked out. My work is to ensure the government's projects are completed on time and meet required standards. There is no place for those playing around with the work assigned to them," he said.
Kindiki inspected the progress of the Mungetho-Thuthwa-Kathutho-Katiki Road, which is being tarmacked in the constituency, before addressing residents at Thutwa trading centre.
The road is among several projects under construction in Mathira, with Muthua-Kiawarigi-Kabiruini, Karura-Kiawarigi and Kiamwangi-Kahuru to Gitemaini roads also at various stages of completion.
Kindiki said improved roads would help farmers move milk and coffee from farms to markets, particularly during the rainy season.
"This region is home to hardworking farmers. For a long period, this area has been left behind. Milk gets spoiled on the way; when it rains, milk trucks cannot pass, and the milk gets spoiled. These roads are therefore meant to improve dairy and coffee farming," he said.
The government has allocated Sh45 billion for the construction of 775 kilometres of roads across Nyeri County.
The roads will cover all six constituencies in the county: Mathira, Othaya, Mukurwe-ini, Kieni, Nyeri Town and Tetu.

An additional Sh650 million has been allocated to connect electricity to 12,000 more homes, while 13 modern markets are under development.
Marikiti Market in Karatina town has been completed, while 10 affordable housing and six hostel projects are ongoing.
Ruring'u Stadium in Nyeri Town, which had stalled for more than 15 years, has also been revived and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
The government has allocated Sh1 billion for the upgrading of Mwai Kibaki Teaching and Referral Hospital in Othaya to a Level Six facility and another Sh1 billion to revamp Nyeri Level Five Hospital.
Kindiki also called on residents of the Mt Kenya region to maintain unity despite political differences.
"Those of us who come from this region of Mount Kenya, let us maintain our unity. Let us not fight because of politics. Politics will come and go, but we will continue to be one community," he said.
He urged politicians to avoid inciting residents against people supporting rival political camps.
"All politicians, across all political sides, should calm down. Do not incite citizens to stone someone's vehicle or harass someone simply because you disagree with them. Sell your politics, sell your policies, and let the other person sell theirs. Let the people decide who will win and lead us," Kindiki said.
