Crime scene/HANDOUTThe Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has taken up investigations into allegations of defilement involving a senior police officer.
According to IPOA, the matter was reported to police on September 27, 2026, before being brought to the attention of the authority, which subsequently deployed an investigation team.
IPOA said significant progress had been made in the investigations, including recording statements from relevant persons, processing and documenting the scene, and obtaining relevant medical records.
The authority said its investigators were conducting further inquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
The inquiries include recording additional statements, extracting and analysing available CCTV footage and conducting an identification parade where necessary, IPOA said.
According to IPOA, the senior police officer identified in connection with the allegations had been arrested and presented before court as investigations continued.
The authority said it was treating the matter with the seriousness it deserved, particularly because of the vulnerability of the alleged victim and the nature of the allegations.
“IPOA will conduct a thorough, impartial and evidence-based investigation and will take appropriate action within its statutory mandate based on the findings,” the authority said.
The authority said its investigation team would continue with the inquiries as it sought to establish the facts surrounding the matter.
IPOA said the investigations were being undertaken as part of its mandate to scrutinise allegations involving police officers and promote accountability in policing.
The authority said it continued to accord priority to allegations of abuse of office, sexual exploitation and defilement involving police officers.
It said this was consistent with its commitment to promoting accountability, professionalism and respect for human rights in policing.
