Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has directed multi-agency teams to accelerate flood mitigation measures ahead of expected El Niño rains. Sakaja urged the agencies not to be intimidated by political interference, insisting on one team, one command and one direction. He ordered faster drainage and desilting works in identified hotspots, while directing the evacuation of residents living in high-risk riparian areas along the Mathare, Ngong and Nairobi rivers.
