The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) will close the Mlolongo-Kamulu Road, also known as Quarry Road, for two months to allow construction works along the route.

The temporary closure will take effect on Thursday, October 1, and remain in place until Tuesday, December 1, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Monday, KURA said the traffic disruption is necessary to allow the contractor to undertake essential construction works along the affected section of the road.

Motorists using the route have been advised to use designated alternative roads during the closure, with diversions based on the type of vehicle.

Light to medium vehicles will be diverted through the Syokimau-Katani Road and Syokimau-Parliament Road.

Heavy commercial vehicles will instead be required to use Tuffoam Road during the period.

KURA has urged motorists approaching the affected section to exercise caution and follow traffic signs and directions issued by police officers and traffic marshals stationed along the route.

The authority said the officers and traffic marshals will help manage traffic and facilitate smooth movement of vehicles along the alternative routes.

“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to follow all traffic signs and instructions given by police officers and traffic marshals, who will be stationed on site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” KURA said.

The closure is expected to temporarily disrupt movement for motorists who regularly use the Mlolongo-Kamulu route, as construction activities are undertaken along the affected section.

KURA asked road users to plan their journeys accordingly and comply with the temporary traffic management measures during the two-month period.

The authority apologised for the inconvenience that will be caused by the closure and appealed to motorists and other road users to cooperate with the traffic management measures.

The closure comes as KURA undertakes works intended to improve urban road infrastructure and mobility.

The authority said it appreciates the public’s cooperation as it continues with efforts to transform urban link roads and related infrastructure like bridges and culverts.

Motorists have been advised to remain alert when approaching the diversion points and to obey instructions to minimise disruptions and maintain orderly traffic flow throughout the construction period.
