Kenya must urgently prepare for a growing population of older persons, with the number aged 60 and above projected to reach 6.4 million by 2045. Speaking ahead of the inaugural National Celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, the conference Chair Lydia Atambo says the country cannot wait until then to act. She is calling for stronger healthcare, social protection, caregiving, financial security and age-friendly communities. In 2019, Kenya had about 2.7 million people aged 60 and above.
