Africa is carrying a growing share of the global childhood cancer burden, according to a study published in The Lancet Oncology. The research estimates that the continent recorded 104,000 childhood cancer cases and 54,700 deaths among children and adolescents aged up to 19 in 2023. This represents nearly 28 per cent of global childhood cancer cases and 38 per cent of deaths, highlighting gaps in early diagnosis and access to treatment.
