The housing project is part of the government's wider Affordable Housing Programme, which Ruto has positioned as a key pillar of his administration's economic transformation agenda.
The modern market is also expected to provide traders with improved facilities and create a more organised environment for commercial activities in Wundanyi.
Earlier, Ruto inspected the construction of the 57-kilometre Bura-Mto Mwagodi road at Mbale in Wundanyi Constituency.
The road, which had stalled for nearly a decade, is being constructed at a cost of Sh2 billion and is expected to improve connectivity between Wundanyi and the Voi-Taveta-Holili highway.
Ruto said completion of the road would open up the Taita-Taveta highlands to greater economic opportunities by improving the movement of people and goods.
The project is also expected to ease transport for residents and businesses while linking communities in the county to major transport corridors.
The President said his administration was investing heavily in the county's road network as part of efforts to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activity.
“This financial year, we are investing Sh15 billion to upgrade the road network across Taita-Taveta County, strengthening connectivity and mobility,” he said.
The investment comes as the government seeks to accelerate infrastructure development across the country, with roads forming a major part of its plans to connect communities and markets.
Ruto said the projects in Taita-Taveta were part of a broader national programme aimed at ensuring development reached different parts of the country.
He maintained that the government would continue implementing projects intended to create opportunities for Kenyans and support economic growth.
The President's visit to Taita-Taveta comes as his administration steps up implementation of infrastructure and housing projects in different parts of the country, with roads, markets and affordable homes forming part of the government's development priorities.
