"Wazazi watangojea nioe." That's how Kenyan content creator Mungai Eve captioned a recent Instagram video, brushing off pressure to get married by comparing her parents' patience over her marriage to the time they once made her wait for a bicycle as a child.
The comment came in response to a fan who shared their own marriage experience and cautioned Eve against rushing into the institution.

Eve pushed back, reminding her followers that she had already spent five years in a relationship that, by her own account, felt like a marriage in everything but name — a clear nod to her years-long relationship with fellow content creator Director Trevor.
The exchange has reignited online interest in her dating history, particularly her long and very public relationship with Trevor, which played out largely in front of her audience for years before it ended.
A Long, Public History With Marriage Talk
This isn't the first time Eve has addressed marriage publicly — and her tone has shifted considerably over the years.
Back in January 2022, Eve and Trevor publicly disagreed over when they'd actually tie the knot, with Eve pointedly asking Trevor, "So bado huja koma?" ("So you still haven't matured?") after he named 25 as his target age for marriage.
At the time, Eve argued that the pair were already functioning as a married couple in every practical sense. "I am already living with him, cooking for him. Aren't we already living like married people? I am just waiting for the wedding now," she said then, adding that she simply didn't have the money to fund a wedding herself.
The following month, in February 2022, Trevor publicly promised he would eventually put a ring on Eve's finger.
By September 2024, however, Eve's framing of that same relationship had changed considerably.
Reflecting on their years of cohabiting, she said the decision to move in with Trevor had come from desperation rather than love.
"I ended up in a come-we-stay marriage because I didn't want to stay in my parents' house and I didn't have anywhere else to go," she said, describing the relationship as something shaped more by circumstance and confusion than genuine romance.

A Relationship That Played Out Publicly
Eve and Trevor's relationship — which began toward the end of 2019 — was often central to both of their public personas, with Trevor widely credited as the person who pushed Eve into content creation in the first place.
The pair marked their fifth anniversary together in January 2023, with Eve publicly thanking him for helping launch her career.
Their eventual split, which unfolded gradually through 2024 and into 2025, became one of Kenya's more closely followed influencer breakups, complete with public disputes over shared social media pages and business assets.
Where She Stands Now
Eve's latest comments suggest she's no longer in a rush to walk down the aisle, treating the subject with the same humour she's increasingly brought to her public reflections on relationships.
Her remark equating marriage with something she'll get to eventually — much like a childhood bicycle — reflects a woman who, at this point, seems far more interested in living life at her own pace than meeting anyone else's timeline for her.
