Principal Secretary in the State Department for Irrigation Ephantus Kimotho when he commissioned the rehabilitated borehole at the school in Kajiado County.Olekasasi Primary School in Kajiado North Constituency is set to benefit from improved access to water following the rehabilitation of its borehole by the State Department for Irrigation.
The school, which has more than 1,500 learners, had been relying on water vendors to meet its needs, particularly for sanitation and hygiene.
The arrangement was costly and unsustainable for the institution.
The water shortage also affected agricultural activities at the school, limiting the implementation of the 4-K Club programme under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The school consequently sought the rehabilitation of its existing borehole to provide a reliable source of clean water for domestic use and support irrigated agriculture.

Principal Secretary in the State Department for Irrigation Ephantus Kimotho commissioned the rehabilitated borehole at the school in Kajiado County.
The project is expected to benefit approximately 1,900 learners by improving access to clean and reliable water while supporting food and nutrition security.
With the borehole now operational, the school has started cultivating mangoes, kales, spinach and tomatoes through irrigated agriculture.
The agricultural activities will give learners an opportunity to acquire practical skills in farming as provided for under the CBC, while also contributing to food production at the school.
The surrounding community is also expected to benefit from improved access to water and related agricultural activities.
