Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Harambee Stars captain and defender Abud Omar/ HANDOUTThe Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports says it has honoured its financial commitments to Harambee Stars players and technical teams over previous assignments.
The Ministry said it had cleared allowances linked to the national team's engagements in Zambia, South Africa and Turkey, as well as the Under-20 CECAFA assignment in Tanzania.
It also said outstanding salaries for the Harambee Stars technical bench had been settled through the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and directly to respective members of the national team.
The clarification comes as the national team prepares for its upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifying assignment against Eritrea.
In a statement issued on September 24, the Ministry said it had taken note of concerns raised over the welfare and allowances of players currently preparing for the match.
"We recognize that the welfare of our players and technical teams is fundamental to effective preparation, performance, and the honor of representing our country," the Ministry said.
The Ministry said the Government had consistently supported Harambee Stars and other national teams during international engagements.
It said the support included preparations, travel, accommodation, allowances and technical support.
The Ministry said any payments relating to subsequent assignments that may still be pending are undergoing the required administrative processes in consultation with FKF.
"Any payments relating to subsequent assignments that may still be pending are undergoing the requisite administrative processes in consultation with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF)," it said.
The Ministry said concerns over player welfare should be addressed promptly while remaining within the administrative and accountability frameworks governing public resources.
It also urged all parties to continue engaging through the appropriate channels as preparations for the Eritrea assignment continue.
"At this critical stage of our preparations, Government expects all parties to continue engaging constructively and through the appropriate channels," the Ministry said.
It said administrative matters should not unnecessarily disrupt the team's preparations or shift focus from the match ahead.
The Ministry reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the welfare of Harambee Stars players and technical teams.
It said it would continue providing support to the national team and the wider development of football as Kenya prepares for the PAMOJA AFCON 2027.
