Senators take Senate Mashinani sittings to Kilifi

Senators have begun a weeklong Senate Mashinani sitting in Kilifi County, bringing the Upper House closer to residents as part of efforts to enhance public participation and oversight at the grassroots.

The sittings are expected to provide residents and local stakeholders with an opportunity to engage senators on issues affecting the county and contribute to discussions on matters under consideration by the Senate.

The Senate Mashinani initiative allows the House to take some of its proceedings outside Nairobi and engage communities directly, with views gathered during the Kilifi sittings expected to inform the Senate’s legislative, oversight and representation roles.
