Tanzanian singer and entrepreneur Juma Jux has reopened his African Boy fashion store, nearly a year after the outlet was looted during political unrest that swept Tanzania following the country's disputed 2025 general election.
Jux marked the grand reopening on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with a star-studded gathering of Tanzanian entertainers, musicians and models who turned out to support him as he celebrated a fresh chapter for the brand.
What Happened to the Store
The unrest broke out in late October 2025 after Tanzania's presidential election was marred by allegations of irregularities and the disqualification of key opposition figures.
Demonstrations spread across parts of the country, and Jux's flagship African Boy store became one of the businesses caught up in the chaos.
Early reports claimed the store — said to be worth millions of shillings — had been burned down entirely.
Jux's wife, Priscilla Ojo, daughter of Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo, moved quickly to correct the record on Snapchat at the time, confirming the store had been looted but not set on fire. "Looted ✅ Burnt ❎," she wrote, urging fans and media not to spread unverified claims.

Diamond Platnumz's Support
During his speech at the reopening, Jux singled out fellow Bongo Flava star Diamond Platnumz for special praise, revealing that Diamond had allowed him to use his image to promote African Boy at no cost — a gesture Jux described as evidence of a friendship that had grown into a deep family bond.
Diamond was reportedly in Zambia at the time of the event and unable to attend in person.
Other celebrities who turned up for the reopening included singer Ben Pol, Diamond's wife Zuchu, singer Chino Kidd, Tanzanian model Sophia Amelowa, music producer S2kizzy, actress Masha Lovie and singer Abigail Chams.

A Brand Built From Scratch
Jux founded The African Boy Brand in 2018, and it has since grown into one of East Africa's better-known homegrown streetwear labels, known for hoodies, graphic tees and footwear.
He had previously announced plans to expand the brand into Kenya.
