Residents of Mathioya Sub-county will no longer travel long distances for specialized and emergency care, following the upgrade and commissioning of Nyakianga Hospital to a Level-4 facility. The expanded hospital in Gitugi Ward is expected to significantly reduce referrals to Murang'a Level-5 Hospital and Othaya Sub-county in Nyeri. While commissioning the facility, Governor Irungu Kang'ata reaffirmed the county's commitment to sustained investment in health infrastructure, equipment and personnel.
