The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has dismissed allegations of wrongdoing in importing and supplying refined petroleum under the Government-to-Government arrangement. Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi said the deal was signed in 2022 to avert a fuel crisis, severe dollar shortage that threatened the economy and Kenya's foreign exchange reserves. The controversy was reignited after Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni said a Kenyan Senator warned him that Uganda was buying fuel at inflated prices through Kenyan middlemen, prompting him to end the arrangement.
