Gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, has opened up about the memories he misses most about his late wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba.
Speaking on Friday, September 18, Krowbar reflected on the role Joyce played in his life and career, remembering the simple moments they shared at home.
He particularly recalled how she would sit nearby and record him whenever he was playing music.
“Sometimes I just miss her sitting there and recording me as I am playing,” Krowbar said.

‘She played a huge role’
Krowbar said Joyce was an important part of the journey that shaped him into the DJ he became.
He explained that music had always been something he enjoyed, but his wife was present during many of the moments that defined his career.
“The DJ I became, my wife played a huge role in the DJ I became,” he said.

He also remembered one of Joyce’s more playful sides, describing her dancing as something that still makes him smile.
“And she was not a good dancer… I miss those funny dances.”
He said being able to remember such moments gives him something positive to hold on to as he continues to process her absence.
Joyce died in January
Joyce died on January 26, 2026, following complications after undergoing a kidney transplant in June 2025.
She had been battling kidney-related health complications for several years before receiving the transplant, with her younger sister, Mercy Wambui, donating a kidney to her.
Krowbar has since spoken publicly about his grief while continuing to honour the memories they created during their marriage.

The couple had spent the day at tea farms after Joyce had recently been discharged from hospital following her transplant. They also bought her favourite sandwich from Java.
Remembering the little things
Krowbar’s latest reflection focuses less on the major milestones of their marriage and more on the ordinary moments that have remained with him.
From Joyce recording him while he worked to her humorous dancing, the DJ said these memories are among those he treasures most.
“I like it when I have good memories of her,” he said.
Earlier this year, he described Joyce as a strong support system and shared memories of how she encouraged him during difficult periods in his career.
For Krowbar, those memories now serve as a way of keeping the connection with his late wife alive, months after her passing.
