Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has urged property owners to pay land rates to help the county fund essential public services and development projects. Speaking at the Nairobi Business Breakfast Forum, Sakaja said only 50,000 of the 250,000 registered landowners currently pay the rates. He said unpaid rates constrain services, including garbage collection, healthcare and road maintenance. Sakaja added that the county is pursuing institutions with outstanding payments, noting property owners owe Nairobi close to one trillion shillings.
