Former Migori governor Okoth Obado arrives in court ahead of the mitigation and sentencing hearing in the murder case of the late Sharon Otieno at Milimani High Court, Nairobi, on September 16, 2026/LEAH MUKANGAI
Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado has arrived at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi ahead of the mitigation and sentencing hearing in the murder case involving the late Sharon Otieno.
Obado and his two co-accused, Michael Juma Oyamo and Caspal Ajwang Obiero, were convicted of Sharon’s murder by the High Court in July 2026 after a trial that lasted nearly eight years.
The court is expected to hear mitigation submissions from the three convicts before determining the sentences to be imposed.
The three were convicted after Justice Cecilia Githua found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The court relied on evidence including witness testimonies, forensic findings, mobile phone records and the movements of the accused persons before and after Sharon’s death.Former Migori governor Okoth Obado arrives in court ahead of the mitigation and sentencing hearing in the murder case of the late Sharon Otieno at Milimani High Court, Nairobi, on September 16, 2026/LEAH MUKANGAI
Sharon, a 26-year-old Rongo University student, was seven months pregnant when she was killed in September 2018.
Following the conviction, the court cancelled the trio’s bond terms and ordered that they remain in custody pending mitigation and sentencing.
The sentencing hearing is expected to consider the circumstances of the offence, the impact of Sharon’s death on her family and the mitigation presented by the convicts.Former Migori governor Okoth Obado in court ahead of the mitigation and sentencing hearing in the murder case of the late Sharon Otieno at Milimani High Court, Nairobi, on September 16, 2026/LEAH MUKANGAIFormer Migori governor Okoth Obado in court ahead of the mitigation and sentencing hearing in the murder case of the late Sharon Otieno at Milimani High Court, Nairobi, on September 16, 2026/LEAH MUKANGAIAccused Michael Oyamo, Caspal Obiero and former Migori governor Okoth Obado present ahead of the mitigation and the sentence hearing of the murder case of the late Sharon Otieno before Justice Cecilia Githua at Milimani High Court, Nairobi, on September 16, 2026/LEAH MUKANGAIAccused Michael Oyamo, Caspal Obiero and former Migori governor Okoth Obado present ahead of the mitigation and sentence hearing of the murder case of the late Sharon Otieno before Justice Cecilia Githua at Milimani High Court, Nairobi, on September 16, 2026/LEAH MUKANGAI
