The National Police Service (NPS) has commended Kenyans for what it described as the peaceful conduct of the Linda Mwananchi Movement political rally held at Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi, Nairobi, on Sunday.

In a statement, the NPS said the rally was conducted peacefully, with organisers, participants and security officers demonstrating mutual respect and restraint.

The Service said the event reflected its call for Kenyans to exercise their constitutional freedoms peacefully and within the law.

“The NPS notes that the event was conducted peacefully, with mutual respect and restraint among the organisers, participants and security officers. What was witnessed on Sunday is precisely what the National Police Service has consistently advocated: that we can exercise our constitutional freedoms peacefully and within the law,” the NPS said.

“We commend members of the public for their cooperation, maturity and adherence to established protocols.”

The NPS described the Jacaranda rally as an example of how political expression can occur without violence or disruption to public order.

It urged political leaders, their supporters and other stakeholders to adopt the conduct witnessed at the rally as the standard for future political engagements.

“The Jacaranda rally demonstrates that political expression can take place without violence or disruption of public order. We therefore encourage all political leaders, supporters and stakeholders to make this the standard for future political engagements,” it said.

“The National Police Service remains apolitical, impartial and committed to serving and protecting all Kenyans, residents and visitors.”

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Sunday led a massive convoy through the capital in a show of growing support for his Linda Mwananchi movement.

Sifuna’s convoy snaked its way from All Saints Cathedral, where he attended a church service, through Marikiti, Burma and Gikomba markets before winding up at Jacaranda grounds for a major political rally.

The team also made stopovers at Stage 17, Manyanja Road and Bee Centre before proceeding to Jacaranda Grounds.

Thousands of supporters lined the streets and joined the procession, turning parts of the city into a sea of movement as the senator took his campaign directly to the capital’s electorate.

The rally at Jacaranda marked the climax of the day, with Sifuna using the platform to rally Nairobi residents behind his 2027 presidential bid.

Addressing supporters at Marikiti market, the senator said the political feedback he has received during his countrywide tours points to growing support for his presidential ambitions.

The senator told residents that people from different parts of the country had been urging him to take up a bigger political role, in what appeared to be a fresh signal of his intention to seek the presidency.
