The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has reported intermittent disruptions affecting its iTax system.
In a notice, the taxman said its technical teams were working to resolve the problem and restore normal services.
“We are currently experiencing intermittent disruptions affecting the iTax system,” KRA said.
The authority did not immediately give details on the cause of the disruption or indicate how long it would take to fully restore the system.
KRA said taxpayers should expect efforts by its technical teams to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
“Our technical teams are actively working to resolve the issue and restore normal services as soon as possible,” the authority said.
The disruption could affect taxpayers attempting to access services hosted on iTax, the authority’s online platform for filing returns and managing various tax-related obligations.
The system is widely used by individuals and businesses to undertake tax transactions without having to visit KRA offices.
It allows one to update their tax registration details, file tax returns, register all tax payments and make status enquiries with real-time monitoring of their ledger/account.
The interruption comes as taxpayers continue to rely on digital platforms for filing tax returns, making payments and accessing other services provided by the revenue authority.
KRA apologised to taxpayers who may have been affected by the technical problems.
“We regret any inconvenience caused,” the authority said.
The authority urged users to bear with it as its technical teams work to restore the affected services.
KRA has increasingly shifted tax administration services online as part of efforts to improve efficiency and compliance while reducing the need for taxpayers to physically visit its offices.
The latest disruption means taxpayers attempting to complete transactions through iTax may experience delays or intermittent access until the system is fully restored.
To log on to iTax, visit itax.kra.go.ke and follow the prompts.
KRA offers training on the use of the system free of charge every first two Thursdays of the month at the Convention Centre, 5th floor, Times Tower.
