A man has been left devastated after losing five members of his family in the Kikopey road accident.

James Wagesah said those killed were his wife and daughter, his brother-in-law, his brother-in-law’s wife and their daughter.

He said the loss has left him without his immediate family, describing the aftermath as devastating.

“The family that has been involved in the accident is mine. It was my wife and child, my brother-in-law with his wife and their daughter. We are all from the same family. I had my wife and my daughter as my only family. Now I am left alone; I don’t have anything. It is very bad,” he said.

A driver for more than 30 years, Wagesah said he has travelled the route for years and is aware of the dangers posed by the road.

He blamed careless driving and dangerous manoeuvres by motorists, saying information he received from police indicated that the vehicle carrying his family was travelling uphill when a bus coming downhill allegedly entered the climbing lane.

He said the circumstances surrounding the crash have made the loss even harder to bear.

“I know they are dangerous, but sometimes I think drivers tend to be negligent or careless with their manoeuvres,” Wagesah said.

“From the information I have from the police where the accident happened, my family was climbing uphill, and then a bus came from up going down using the climbing lane. That is how it hit them.”

Wagesah said his family members had been cautious and wanted to live, but their lives were cut short by what he described as another driver's lack of care.

“These are people who were careful with their lives; they wanted to live, but someone who was not careful has done all these. It is painful and sad,” he said.

Five people, including two women and two juveniles, died in a road accident involving a PSV bus and a saloon car along the Gilgil-Nakuru Road on Sunday night.

Police said the accident occurred at around 11 pm on September 13, 2026, in the Kamugunda area.

Police said the bus was travelling from Gilgil towards Nakuru when its driver allegedly failed to keep to his near side and drove on the acceleration lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming Toyota IST.

Four passengers in the Toyota IST, two female adults and two juveniles, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota IST, who was initially seriously injured, was rushed to St Joseph Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The bodies were removed from the scene and taken to PNN Funeral Home for preservation, pending identification and postmortem examinations.

Both vehicles were towed to the police station yard, where they were detained pending inspection as investigations into the accident continue.
