KMSA urged Kenyans to use weather information to plan, protect lives and livelihoods and take action before weather-related hazards occur.
The forecast comes as the country prepares for the OND season, with the meteorological service emphasising the need to turn early warnings into early action.
A review of weather conditions between September 7 and 13 showed that most parts of the country remained dry. However, rainfall was recorded in a few counties, notably Busia, Kisii, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale.
The highest seven-day rainfall total of 120.7mm was recorded at the Busia Ministry of Water Office rainfall station. In comparison, Mtwapa Meteorological Station recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall amount of 77.1mm on September 11.
KMSA said rainfall amounts increased in most stations that received rainfall compared with the August 31-September 6 review period.
Daytime maximum average temperatures above 30°C are expected in several counties, including Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit and Turkana.
Night-time minimum average temperatures below 10°C are expected in some parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nakuru, Narok, Taita Taveta and Kajiado.
KMSA said the window for preparedness ahead of the OND season is now, urging communities and authorities to act on available weather information before hazards occur.
Kenya is set for an enhanced October-November-December short rains season with the latest forecast projecting above-average downpour and isolated storms in much of the country.
The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority said the OND 2026 rains are expected to be fairly to well distributed across several parts of the country, except Turkana and Samburu where distribution is forecast to be poor to fair.
“This season will be marked by prolonged wet spells and occasional isolated storms over several parts of the country,” Kenya Met said.
