Chile has become the first country in South America to receive World Health Organization validation for eliminating dog-transmitted rabies as a public health problem. The achievement follows more than 50 years without a human rabies case and demonstrates the country’s ability to prevent re-emergence. WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus congratulated Chile, saying the milestone highlights the impact of sustained investment in public health.
