Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo speaking in Kisumu on September 13, 2026 / HANDOUT

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has urged young people to reject political violence, saying the government will not allow violence in political activities.

Speaking on Sunday during a service at the Voice of Salvation and Healings Church in Kisumu, attended by President William Ruto, Omollo said politicians should not exploit young people to perpetuate violence.

“As a leader who is responsible for the security and development of the country, I plead with our young people; at times you might find that politicians want to use them to perpetuate violence. Let us stay away from such leaders,” Omollo said.

He urged those who do not support a particular politician to simply stay away from their meetings rather than engage in violence.

“If you do not support a particular politician, simply stay away from their meeting. Let us not engage in violence or lose lives because of politics,” he said.

PS Omollo said President Ruto had given a firm directive that there would be no politics of violence under his administration.

“We will not use violence to transact our politics,” he said.

The PS also praised the President for what he described as unprecedented engagement with grassroots leaders, professionals and other stakeholders from the four counties of Luo Nyanza.

He said the engagement had provided an opportunity for residents to share their concerns and listen to their elected leaders on development priorities for the region.

Omollo said development in the region should not be tied to having a Luo as President or Deputy President, noting that the current administration had demonstrated that all Kenyans deserved to benefit from government projects regardless of their political or ethnic background.

He said several projects being undertaken in the region had been initiated from the first day of the President’s administration, with additional projects being identified through engagements between leaders and the government.

The President is currently on a tour in Nyanza, where he began in Kisumu before proceeding to other engagements.

His four-day tour of Nyanza, running from Sunday to Thursday, will focus on the inspection, launch and commissioning of roads, markets, water projects, housing and other infrastructure.

On Monday, the President will remain in Kisumu, where he is expected to inspect the airport control tower in Kisumu West Constituency and commission the sub-county police headquarters. He will also inspect road projects along the Mamboleo-Miwani-Chemelil-Muhoroni and Kipsitet routes.

The President is further expected to launch or commission the Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project in Kisumu Central and inspect the Awasi-Katito road project in Nyando Constituency.

The tour will move to Siaya on Tuesday, where Ruto is expected to inspect the Dhogoye Bridge in Bondo Constituency and the Sihayi-Bar Ober-Sega road in Ugenya.

He will also visit Siaya Hospital and the local stadium before inspecting the Kodiaga-Fabiano-Usenge road project in Alego Usonga.

Other projects lined up in Siaya include the Asambo-West Uyoma water project in Rarieda.
