Supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement on Sunday gathered in large numbers at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi ahead of a planned rally.

The movement, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, was seen on Jogoo Road making its way to the venue in a convoy accompanied by a group of supporters.

The leaders were seen waving to and interacting with residents as they made their way to the grounds, where supporters continued to gather ahead of the rally.

The tour  began  at All Saints Cathedral at 9 am with a church service before the movement embarked on a tour of some of the city’s busiest markets and neighbourhoods.

From the cathedral, Sifuna and his supporters headed to Marikiti and Gikomba markets before proceeding to Burma Market.

They then went to Stage 17, B Centre and Manyanja, followed by a procession along Jogoo Road.

The tour is scheduled to conclude at Jacaranda Grounds where Sifuna is expected to address a mega rally.

The Nairobi mobilisation comes as the senator seeks to expand the reach of Linda Mwananchi beyond its growing support base and demonstrate that the movement can command a significant political following in the capital.

Sifuna urged his supporters to turn out in large numbers for what his allies have already described as the “mother of all rallies” for the Nairobi senator.

In a message shared on social media, Sifuna presented Sunday’s programme as a combination of prayer and political mobilisation, challenging supporters to find no excuse for staying away.

“Programme ya Sunday ni fupi sana… kwanza maombi ndio Mungu aongezee mahasidi na wale wa roho mbaya confusion… alafu tuingie kiwanja pale Jacaranda. Excuse yako ni gani?” Sifuna said.

The event is being closely watched as Sifuna continues to position himself as a major player in the opposition political realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Some businesses in parts of the Nairobi CBD were closed ahead of the rally, as police officers maintained a visible presence in the city in anticipation of the political procession.

The rally is being led by Sifuna alongside other political leaders, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo and former nominated senator Millicent Omanga.

Outside All Saints Cathedral, large crowds also gathered, with some supporters carrying Kenyan flags as they waited for the church service to end.

The heightened security presence in parts of the city comes amid concerns over possible disruptions during the procession, with police officers deployed to maintain order as the crowds gather.

The Nairobi tour comes at a time of heightened political activity, with rival opposition formations seeking to consolidate support and position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
