President William Ruto addresses residents in Kericho town on September 12, 2026/PCS

‎

‎‎President William Ruto has dismissed the opposition as a political force without a clear agenda, accusing its leaders of resorting to insults after failing to unite.

‎Ruto said the United Opposition coalition collapsed because its founders lacked unity and a common purpose, before attempting to create another political outfit dubbed the alternative government.

‎“Walianzisha United Opposition hiyo ikazambaratika because there was no unity, and there was no convergence of anything,” Ruto said.

‎He was addressing residents in Kericho town on Saturday, the last day of his tour of the South Rift region.

‎The President said the opposition’s attempt to rebrand itself as an alternative government had also failed to offer Kenyans a different political vision.

‎“Wakaenda huko wakajaribu ingine inaitwa alternative government, mimi nikawaambia alternative government inahitaji alternative ideas, alternative agenda, alternative vision,” he said.

‎Ruto accused the opposition of lacking the capacity to present an alternative to his administration.

‎“Those people are incapable of anything alternative; they are useless,” he said.

‎The President said opposition leaders had now resorted to personal attacks instead of presenting policies to persuade voters.

‎“Sasa wamekwama kwa matusi sijui Kasongo, sijui one term, sijui muuaji,” he said.

‎He added: “Those people wako down kabisa hawana mpango yoyote.”

‎Ruto’s remarks came as he continued to defend his administration’s record and appeal for support in the 2027 General Election.

‎The President has repeatedly challenged opposition leaders to present their alternative plans for the country, arguing that political competition should be based on ideas and development priorities.

‎His latest attack focused on the opposition’s internal divisions, which he said had undermined efforts to build a united political front.

‎The United Opposition has brought together leaders from different political formations, but disagreements over leadership, strategy and the 2027 contest have continued to shape its public image.

‎Ruto said the collapse of the coalition demonstrated that its leaders had failed to establish a shared agenda.

‎He contrasted this with his administration’s development programme, which he said was focused on delivering projects and improving the lives of Kenyans.

‎The President’s South Rift tour included visits to Bomet and Kericho, where he inspected and commissioned development projects and addressed residents.

‎In Kericho, he urged residents to support his administration’s agenda, while portraying the opposition as lacking a credible alternative.
