Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has revealed an unexpected parenting method during an appearance on the Oga Obinna podcast.

The Kenyan politician and businesswoman disclosed that she keeps a Toyota Probox specifically to discipline her children when they misbehave.

The reveal came during a candid conversation regarding her personal vehicle collection and business background.

A High-End Fleet with an Unexpected Twist

During the interview, host Oga Obinna questioned Omanga about her passion for motor vehicles. Omanga confirmed that she has owned several luxury cars over the years. Her fleet includes a Rolls-Royce, a Bentley, a Mercedes-Benz, a Range Rover, and a Lexus.

“I love car, from Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lexus and even a Range Rover. I also have a probox,” she added.

She added jokingly that her heavy spending on vehicles might prevent her from becoming extremely wealthy. When Obinna asked whether she owned a modest Toyota Probox station wagon, Omanga surprised the host.

Using the Probox as a Disciplinary Tool

Omanga explained that the humble commercial vehicle serves a very specific purpose in her household. She uses the car as a practical tool to humble her children when their behaviour requires correction.

She shared how she uses the vehicle when sending her daughter to school. Omanga detailed her exact instructions to her driver:

“Nikitaka kudiscipline kama Maya kwenda shule namwambia ni probox inaenda kumchukua, anatoroka driver anamtafuta kama one hour kwa shule, juu hataki kubebwa na Probox,” she revealed.

The measure appears effective due to the social embarrassment her children feel when seen in the utilitarian vehicle. Omanga noted that her children actively try to avoid the car at school.

She added that her children often hide for up to an hour to avoid being picked up in the station wagon.

From Car Boot Sales to Senate Chambers

The podcast discussion also touched upon Omanga’s early commercial ventures. Before entering active politics, she operated as a small-scale trader in Nairobi.

Omanga was appointed a director at the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) in 2013, serving until 2017. She subsequently served as a nominated Senator under the Jubilee Party from 2017 to 2022.
