Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company technical team fixing destroyed water pipes/NWSCSeveral estates in Nairobi are set to go without water following plans to shut down the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company said the move is meant to facilitate emergency repair works along the Sasumua–Kabete pipeline.
“The shutdown will start on Friday at 6am and is expected to run until Saturday 8am. As a result, water supply will be interrupted in several parts of Nairobi during the repair period,” the firm said in a statement.
Nairobi faces persistent water shortages because demand exceeds 900 million litres per day against a supply of 525 million litres.
The situation is compounded by damaged infrastructure and water leaks. The city's water sources include the Thika, Sasumua and Ruiru dams, as well as the Ng'ethu treatment plants.
