A surveyor based in Narok County has been arrested over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has said.
According to EACC, the surveyor is alleged to have demanded Sh100,000 from a complainant to facilitate the identification of beacons between two parcels of land in Nairagie Enkare Sub-County, Narok County.
The commission said the arrest followed preliminary investigations into the complaint.
EACC said it subsequently mounted an operation that led to the surveyor’s arrest at the Narok County offices while she was allegedly receiving Sh50,000.
The surveyor was escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and statement recording, the commission said.
The arrest in Narok came hours after EACC reported the arrest of two police officers in Kipkelion Sub-County Offices over similar allegations.
In a statement issued on September 10, EACC said the two officers were alleged to have demanded Sh500,000 from a complainant in exchange for terminating a murder case against him.
The commission said preliminary investigations led to an operation in which the officers were arrested while allegedly receiving Sh120,000.
EACC said one of the suspects was processed at its South Rift Regional Office and later released on a cash bail of Sh30,000 pending completion of investigations.
The two incidents form part of the commission’s efforts to address bribery and other forms of corruption at public service delivery points.
EACC said it “remains committed to tackling bribery and other forms of corruption at service delivery points” while seeking to enhance the quality of public services for citizens.
The commission also reiterated its commitment to combating corruption across sectors and urged members of the public to report bribery and other corrupt conduct through its official reporting channels.
EACC investigates, prevents and combats corruption within the public and private sectors to foster integrity, transparency and accountability.
The commission’s latest operations in Narok and Kipkelion come as it continues to pursue complaints involving alleged bribery and other forms of corrupt conduct.
The allegations against the individuals involved are subject to the ongoing investigations.
