A section of teachers in Yatta, Machakos County, say they are living in fear after receiving DCI summons to record statements over alleged breaking into a building and committing a felony. The summons follow demonstrations at KNUT offices in Kithimani, where teachers protested the union’s leadership and January elections. The teachers have termed the summons intimidation and victimisation, insisting that demonstrating and expressing dissatisfaction with union leadership is a democratic right.

DCIO Yatta Barrack Otengo defended the summons, saying the DCI's role is to investigate the allegations and that the teachers were summoned simply to provide information that could assist investigators.
