Pastor Victor Kanyari has shared an emotional account of the death of a former girlfriend he once considered marrying.
Kanyari broke the news during a church service on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, telling his congregation that the woman had died after battling cancer.
The preacher became emotional as he recalled their relationship and the role she played in his life before he became well known.

Kanyari described the woman as someone who supported him during his difficult years, before he had the wealth and recognition he has today.

According to Kanyari, he was serious about the relationship and introduced her to his mother, telling her that he intended to marry her.
However, he said his mother had reservations about the relationship because of the woman’s heavy drinking.
Kanyari eventually ended the relationship, although he said he continued to care about her long after they went their separate ways.
“I don’t forget my friends. Even if they have married or not married, I always remember my friends.”
Continued Supporting Her Children
The woman later married another man and had three children.
Kanyari clarified that the children were not his, but said he continued supporting them by paying their school fees at what he described as an expensive school.
He also revealed that he had tried to help the woman seek treatment for alcohol use by getting her into a rehabilitation centre.
However, he said his efforts were unsuccessful.
Kanyari further claimed that her alcohol use was connected to the cancer that eventually caused her death. That account was his own explanation during the church service and has not been independently established.
Kanyari to Attend Her Burial
Despite their relationship ending years ago, Kanyari said he never stopped considering the woman a friend.
“That’s my msichana,” Kanyari said while remembering the woman.
The disclosure comes months after Kanyari mourned his former wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo, who died in November 2025 after an illness. Kanyari and Bayo had separated years earlier but remained connected through their two children, Sky and Danny.
Kanyari has continued to speak publicly about the people who played important roles in his life, including Bayo, whom he previously described as an important part of his family and their children's upbringing.
