Mabatini MCA Wilfred Odalo /HANDOUTMabatini Ward MCA Wilfred Oluoch Odalo has been ranked the best-performing Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in the country under the Champions Progress Ward Programme, according to a report released by Swiss Poll International.
The report praised Odalo for his performance in representing residents, championing development initiatives, and serving as chairperson of the Nairobi County Assembly Budget Committee.
“He has been exceptional in his performance as an elected Member of the County Assembly of Nairobi, and we therefore want to recognise his efforts in ensuring that there is proper governance both at the county and ward levels,” the report stated.
Reacting to the recognition, Odalo expressed his gratitude to the people of Mathare and the organisers of the programme, saying the award would motivate him to continue serving residents.
“I am delighted today to receive this award. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the people of Mathare and the organisers for this recognition. It motivates me to continue doing my best in serving the people,” Odalo said.
Odalo has served as the Mabatini Ward MCA for the past 14 years, a tenure during which he says his administration has initiated numerous development projects in the ward.
The recognition comes as Odalo positions himself for a bigger political role ahead of the 2027 general election, with the MCA eyeing the Mathare parliamentary seat.
He says his experience in ward leadership and at the Nairobi County Assembly has equipped him with the skills and understanding required to serve residents at the constituency level.
“Over the last 14 years, we have been doing well, and I want to promise my constituents that I shall endeavor to do even better when given the MP seat come 2027,” Odalo said.
He also pointed to his role as chairperson of the County Assembly Budget Committee, saying he has worked to ensure that Nairobi’s budget responds to the needs of residents.
“As Budget Chair of the Nairobi County Assembly, I have made sure that our budget is robust and streamlined to suit our needs,” the MCA said.
