Kenyan music duo Vijana Barubaru have announced a break from making music together as the two members turn their focus to their individual careers.
The Nairobi-based duo, made up of Tuku Kantu and Mwana Wa Wambui, made the announcement in an official statement issued on September 9, 2026.
The artists said the decision marks a new chapter in their music careers after years of working together.
“For years, the world has known us as Vijana Barubaru. Two voices, one shared journey,” they said.
The duo said they were proud of what they had built together and described the decision as an opportunity to explore their creative journeys further.
“As artists and as individuals, we have both continued to grow, and out of the desire to further explore our creative journeys, we have decided to go on a hiatus to focus on our solo careers,” they said.
They described the break as a period of self-discovery. The artists said they want to explore their individual creative voices, discover new aspects of themselves and see what more they can become as musicians.
“Vijana Barubaru has given us a foundation, history, and brotherhood,” they said.
The duo also thanked their fans for supporting them throughout their journey.
“None of what we have achieved would have been possible without the love and support you have given us,” they said.
They invited fans to continue supporting their individual careers as they begin the next chapter.
“Bring the same love, if not more, and let's continue making great memories and music,” they said.
Kantu and Wambui met and began writing music together as independent acts before officially establishing Vijana Barubaru.
They later grew popular for their romantic Swahili love songs and major collaborations, including the hit “Kifo Cha Mende”.
