The government has been urged to assess the condition of Kenya’s forests ahead of the expected heavy El Niño rains to protect trees planted as part of efforts to combat climate change. Kilifi Youth On the Move Director-General Emmanuel Gonna says the government has yet to provide information on preparations in forests to ensure newly planted trees are not destroyed by heavy rainfall. Gonna says protecting the seedlings will be crucial to sustaining Kenya’s reforestation and climate-change mitigation efforts.
