Kenya has expressed readiness to expand maize trade with Uganda as the two countries promote agricultural commerce under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe said Uganda could meet part of Kenya’s maize demand but urged improved drying practices and stronger measures to address aflatoxin concerns. Speaking to Uganda’s Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Kagwe said better post-harvest handling would expand market opportunities for Ugandan farmers while ensuring Kenyan consumers access safe, quality maize.
