President William Ruto chairs cabinet meeting/PCSPresident William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have made a series of appointments and re-appointments to boards and councils of State agencies.
The appointments were made through gazette notices dated September 4, 2026, with most of the new terms taking effect during the month.
They cover institutions in the agriculture, education, energy, water, labour, technology and enterprise sectors.
Among the changes, Ruto appointed Henry Gichuhi Kinyua as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Coffee Board of Kenya for a three-year term effective September 4, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Coffee Act, I, William Samoei Ruto... appoint—Henry Gichuhi Kinyua to be the non-executive chairperson of the Coffee Board of Kenya, for a period of three (3) years,” the notice reads.
The President also re-appointed Dr Geoffrey Mutai as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Council for another three years, effective September 9, 2026.
The appointments come as the government continues to fill and renew leadership positions across State corporations and public institutions.
Elsewhere in the cabinet dockets, Prime and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi appointed Prof Vasey Mwanja as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI).
Mwanja's three-year term took effect on September 4.
Meanwhile, at the National Treasury, CS John Mbadi re-appointed Michael Waititu Maina as a member of the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority for another three years.
In the energy sector, Dr Francis Ndwiga Benson has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for three years.
The appointment by Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi takes effect from September 4.
At the Information and Communications Technology Authority, Richard K. Makenga joins the board for a three-year term following his appointment by Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo.
Kabogo also renewed the tenure of Evalyn Koiyan and Bevin Angellah Bhoke, who will serve for another three years on the Council of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.
The changes extended to several education institutions, with Dr Stella Keter and Stephen G. Chacha retaining their positions on the Kenya Education Management Institute Council for another three years.
The North Eastern National Polytechnic Council will have two new members, Ismael Ali Abdullahi and Abdirahman Noor Hassan, while Wilson A. Mtai has been appointed to the Kisiwa National Polytechnic Council.
Their three-year terms begin on September 4.
Elsewhere, Joyce M. Njogu has been appointed to the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute for three years by Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui.
The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority is also getting eight new members.
The team appointed by Cooperatives and MSMEs Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya comprises Tobias Ouma Alando, James Kaburu, Wesley Kipkirui Siele, Margaret Gitonga, Timiro Adan Ibraham, Lucia Ndunge Kivila, Susan Nandwa and Adams S. Barasa. Their terms begin on September 7.
In the water sector, Irene Chebichii Cheruiyot and Peter Nunda Mutisya have been retained on the Water Services Regulatory Board for another term.
The Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency board will similarly retain John Billy Momanyi and Cecilia Ngetich.
There was also a change at the Water Resources Authority, where Fozia Ali Ibrahim has been appointed to the board, replacing Hassan Ahamednur Baricha.
Baricha, however, has been given a new role at the Kenya Water Institute, where he will serve on the Governing Council for three years.
Other changes include the appointment of retired military officer Capt. (Rtd) Augustine Ekitela to the Kerio Valley Development Authority for one year.
At the Kenya Defence Forces Pensions Assessment Committee, Damaris Wanjiru Njoroge has been appointed secretary for a three-year term.
The National Labour Board will also retain six members for another three years.
They are Francis Atwoli, Jacqueline Mugo, Dr Charles Kireru, Dickens Ouma, Moss Ndiema and Atie Swaleh Ramadhan, following their re-appointment by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
