A TikTok video has given Kenyans a rare glimpse of life at the Odinga family’s Riat Hills residence in Kisumu, with an ostrich and a helicopter among the details that caught attention.

The video was posted on Tuesday, September 1, by TikTok user @nyangiyachau under the caption,
“A day in the life of a Queen Mother's daughter.”
It showed different parts of the expansive property, including its paved driveway, large entrance and several garages.
But it was an ostrich roaming around the compound that quickly became one of the most talked-about features of the footage.

One of the more personal moments in the video showed Ida Odinga at a kitchen window feeding the large bird.

Ida smiled as the ostrich approached the window to take food from her hand.
The footage offered a glimpse of the former prime minister’s widow outside her usual public engagements.
The presence of ostriches at the property is not entirely new. In 2023, comedian Eric Omondi shared footage from the Riat Hills residence, showing ostriches roaming the grounds.

A helicopter lands at the residence.

The video later moved from the animals to the property’s aviation facilities.
A helicopter was filmed landing within the compound before the TikTok user boarded it for a journey to Kisumu International Airport.
The helicopter scene drew strong reactions online, with viewers discussing the convenience of travelling directly from the residence to the airport.

Kenya's Reaction

The combination of the exotic pet, the helipad and the private jet painted a vivid picture of a lifestyle far removed from the ordinary, and Kenyans had plenty to say about it.
Dave Amon:
"There are lanes. Private 🙄"
Spe:
"Where do I even start? Do you need an aide?”
Seth Amimo;
"Our mum is doing fine. She could ask you at the reception, 'Have you been attended to?' and immediately call the person and ensure you're promptly served."
