The Danish Embassy in Nairobi has advertised two jobs at its Regional Visa Hub, but only one of the positions is open to Kenyan applicants.
Through their social media platforms, the embassy said they are seeking to recruit a Consular Officer and a Visa Officer to join its team in Nairobi.
However, the Visa Officer position is restricted to European Union and Schengen nationals, making it unavailable to Kenyans.
“Our Regional Visa hub at the Danish Embassy in Nairobi is looking for two new colleagues to join our team,” the announcement read.
“Consular Officer, Visa Officer (open to EU/ Schengen nationals only)”
The Consular Officer position does not carry the same nationality restriction stated for the Visa Officer role.
The embassy urged interested applicants to carefully review the requirements and terms before applying.
“The recruitment is for two new colleagues to join our team,” the embassy said.
The Consular Officer will handle a range of consular services involving Danish citizens across several countries.
According to the job description, the officer will answer the consular phone and mailbox and handle general enquiries from Danish nationals, as well as requests from Danish authorities.
The officer will also handle consular cases in Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, Somalia and Eritrea.
The role will include receiving and processing passport applications and working with Honorary Consuls in countries where Denmark has side accreditation.
The successful applicant will also be responsible for the legalisation of documents.
The Consular Officer will assist with visa case processing through various ad hoc tasks and participate in relevant seminars, courses, video conferences and meetings.
The officer will report to the Team Leader of the Visa and Consular Team at the Regional Visa Hub at the Danish Embassy in Nairobi.
For the second position of a Visa Officer, which is only open to EU/Schengen nationals, the successful applicant will be involved in the daily processing of Schengen visa applications.
The role also involves making decisions in Schengen visa cases and ensuring compliance with Schengen visa rules and Danish visa guidelines.
The embassy said the successful applicant should “Show great thoroughness and responsibility in your work.”
The Visa Officer will also participate in relevant seminars, courses, video conferences and meetings and report to the Team Leader of the Visa and Consular Team.
The embassy has therefore set September 11 as the deadline for applications.
Applicants have also been warned against submitting their applications through social media or the embassy’s email.
“Applications via social media or embassy email will not be processed,” the embassy said.
It directed applicants to submit their applications through FUZU only.
The embassy further cautioned applicants to check the requirements before applying.
“Only applications that meet the stated criteria will be considered,” it said.
The vacancies come as the embassy’s Regional Visa Hub continues to handle consular and Schengen visa-related responsibilities from Nairobi.
The advertised roles cover a range of duties, from passport applications and document legalisation to the processing and determination of Schengen visa cases.
