A majority of global citizens are prioritising localised production in essential sectors like health, energy, and food security over high-tech sectors.
Global survey data reveals that domestic capacity in pharmaceuticals and medical supplies is the top priority, with 39 percent of respondents advocating for home-based production.
Clean energy and agricultural supply chains closely follow as critical focus areas for localised growth. Renewable energy stands as the second most requested domestic industry at 37 per cent, while food and agricultural technology captures 35 per cent of public interest.
Interest drops noticeably for heavy defense and specialised hardware industries. Defense technology received backing from 26 percent of respondents, while semiconductors and microchips registered at 25 per cent.
Emerging frontier tech sectors also hovered in the low-to-mid twenties. Artificial intelligence development garnered 22 percent support, followed by digital infrastructure at 21 per cent and advanced manufacturing at 20 per cent.
Technologies related to power storage and industrial automation landed at the bottom of the public priority list. Battery and energy storage technology saw 19 per cent of respondents calling for local development, while robotics and automation recorded 15 per cent.
Meanwhile, 5 percent of respondents indicated they did not know which sectors to prioritise, and a minimal 1 percent felt none of the listed industries should be developed locally.
