For a moment, the future looked uncertain for Gengetone artist Maddox.
The former Boondocks Gang member, who once enjoyed the spotlight and a growing fan base, was earlier spotted struggling on the streets amid a battle with drug addiction. His situation sparked concern among fans and fellow entertainers, with intervention eventually seeing him taken to a rehabilitation centre.
Now, Maddox is giving fans a glimpse into his life behind the walls of rehab—and his message is one of hope, acceptance and determination.

‘I Made the Best Decision’
Speaking about his experience, Maddox says accepting help and agreeing to enter rehabilitation was one of the best choices he has made.
“I believe I made the best decision kukubali kuenda rehab,” he says.
The artiste admits that he initially had fears about rehabilitation, particularly because he associated the process with painful experiences.
“First time nilikua naogopa masindano,” he recalls.
However, those fears quickly changed after he received what he describes as friendly and professional treatment.
“Kuna counsellors na therapy sessions narecover,” Maddox explains, highlighting the role counselling and therapy have played in his recovery.
Rediscovering Himself Through Music
Away from drugs and the pressures of life on the streets, Maddox says he has found productive ways to spend his time.
He has been reading books, attending therapy sessions and, most importantly, returning to songwriting.
“Nikiread books na kuandika songs,” he says.
For an artiste whose identity has always been closely tied to music, songwriting appears to be giving Maddox a renewed sense of purpose.
His ambition is clear: when he walks out of rehab, he wants to have new music ready for the people who stood by him.
“Nikitoka nataka nikue na songs kuserve my fans and supporters,” he says.

A Warning About Drugs
Maddox’s experience has also left him with a powerful lesson about substance abuse.
“Drugs zinaeza take something in your life yenye hata wewe huezi jua ni nini,” he warns.
His journey is a reminder that addiction can affect anyone and can gradually take away important parts of a person’s life before they fully realise what is happening.
For Maddox, however, the story is no longer simply about what he lost. It is about what he can rebuild.
As he continues his recovery, fans will be watching closely, hoping that the artiste who once entertained them with his music will return stronger—and with a new chapter to sing about.
