A police constable is among three suspects arrested in connection with the killing of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) saying two of the suspects were apprehended in Kampala, Uganda.
The DCI said the arrests followed a coordinated operation by detectives from its Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, Operations Directorate and Homicide Bureau, based on findings from forensic analysis.
Two suspects were arrested at Kyanja Heights flats in the Nakawa suburb of Kampala with the assistance of the Uganda Police Force.
They include a police constable attached to Thogoto Police Station and a civilian.
The two are being held at Jinja Road Police Station in Uganda pending their escorted return to Nairobi.
The DCI said a third suspect was arrested earlier within the Langata Multi-Media area while travelling towards Ongata Rongai.
According to investigators, the police constable was allegedly involved in surveillance and served as co-driver to a man the DCI describes as a central organiser of the operation.
Detectives allege that the vehicle was used to box in the Uber taxi in which Dr Mutiso was travelling on the morning of July 29, 2026, in Upper Hill, Nairobi, shortly before she was fatally shot.
The DCI further said the civilian arrested in Kampala was allegedly a link between the execution team and the person who contracted them.
Investigators allege that he acted as a paymaster, facilitating money transfers for logistics and movement of the alleged hit team.
The two suspects are expected to be returned to Kenya, where the DCI said they will be processed and arraigned in accordance with the law.
The agency said the suspects' movement to Uganda had delayed the investigation but did not stop it.
The DCI also thanked the family, friends and relatives of Dr Mutiso, as well as the public, for their support during the investigation.
It dismissed earlier claims by political actors that suspects had been arrested and released or that security officials had helped them escape, describing the allegations as false and unsubstantiated.
The agency said the arrests in Kampala demonstrate that investigations into Dr Mutiso's killing remain active.
The DCI said it will continue providing updates on significant developments when operationally appropriate and urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or provide information anonymously through its toll-free reporting channels.
