Kenya’s National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) has opened a recruitment drive for senior professionals who will help build and run the institution as it seeks to mobilise long-term capital for infrastructure and strategic development projects.
The NIF Board is seeking candidates for five key positions, including Chief Financial & Operating Officer, Chief Investment Officer, Chief Legal & Risk Officer/Corporation Secretary, Chief Engineer and Senior Manager, Strategic & Financial Communications.
The recruitment comes as the Fund positions itself as Kenya’s flagship infrastructure investment institution, with a mandate to mobilise domestic and international capital into commercially viable projects, deepen the country’s capital markets and catalyse private sector investment.
The positions will form part of the professional team expected to establish the Fund’s financial, investment, technical, legal, risk, operational and communications systems.
For the financial and operational arm, NIF is looking for a Chief Financial & Operating Officer who will report to the Chief Executive Officer and take charge of the Fund’s financial management and treasury operations.
The CFO/COO will be responsible for safeguarding NIF’s financial resources and ensuring that the Fund, its investment vehicles and special purpose vehicles operate within approved financial, statutory and governance frameworks.
The officer will oversee cash-flow forecasting, liquidity planning, banking, custody, cash management and treasury reporting. The role will also cover project and fund accounting, lender and investor reporting, budgeting, audit, taxation and financial controls.
Beyond finance, the officer will oversee human resources, information technology, procurement and administration, with the aim of ensuring that NIF operates as a lean, high-performing and accountable investment organisation.
The Fund is also seeking a Chief Investment Officer to lead its investment function and oversee the full investment lifecycle.
The CIO will be expected to originate, develop, structure and execute infrastructure investments, while mobilising third-party capital from domestic and international institutional investors, financiers and capital markets.
The successful candidate will oversee projects from concept and feasibility through commercial structuring, bankability and financial close, before taking responsibility for portfolio management, value creation, exits and capital recycling.
NIF says the CIO will also establish the people, processes, systems and investment discipline required to build the institution into a leading infrastructure investment organisation.
The legal and risk function will be headed by a Chief Legal & Risk Officer/Corporation Secretary.
The position has been designed as a hands-on leadership role, with the successful candidate expected to personally advise, structure, draft, negotiate and manage complex infrastructure, investment, construction and project-finance transactions.
The officer will serve as NIF’s principal legal, governance and enterprise risk adviser while supporting the Board and relevant committees. The role will cover the investment lifecycle, including project development, contracting, financing, construction, operations, restructuring and exit.
The successful legal candidate will need at least 10 years of progressively responsible legal experience, with significant exposure to areas including project finance, infrastructure, banking, investment funds, private equity, capital markets or development finance.
The advert also requires at least five years at senior leadership level and a strong hands-on transactional track record.
The Fund is separately recruiting a Chief Engineer to provide strategic and technical leadership across its infrastructure portfolio and serve as the principal technical adviser to management and the Board.
The engineer will lead the technical workstream from concept development, feasibility and design through project structuring, procurement, contracting, financial close, construction, commissioning and operational readiness.
The role will require the successful candidate to interrogate feasibility studies, designs, technical specifications, construction programmes, budgets, contracts, progress reports and emerging project risks.
Applicants for the engineering position must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a university recognised in Kenya and be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya as a Registered Professional Engineer. Membership of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya or an equivalent recognised professional body is also required.
The advert states that applicants should provide details of at least three significant infrastructure projects in which they have personally held a senior technical, development or delivery role.
NIF has also opened a position for Senior Manager, Strategic & Financial Communications, placing emphasis on a candidate capable of translating complex investment, infrastructure, financial and regulatory matters into clear communications.
The communications manager will lead the Fund’s external communications function and advise the CEO and senior management. The role will cover institutional branding, strategic communications, financial and investment communications, media, digital platforms, stakeholder engagement, publications, conferences and strategic events.
The successful candidate will also be expected to personally produce high-quality content while developing and executing the institution’s communications strategy.
The five positions are being offered on fixed-term renewable contracts, subject to satisfactory performance. Competitive remuneration packages commensurate with experience and responsibility will be offered.
The advert states that successful candidates must satisfy the leadership and integrity requirements under Chapter Six of the Constitution. NIF is also described as an equal opportunity employer committed to merit, integrity and excellence.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide documents including detailed curricula vitae, National Identity Cards and relevant statutory clearances.
For several of the positions, candidates will also need to demonstrate their professional track records through specific examples of projects, transactions, investments or communications work.
Applications must be submitted in plain sealed envelopes addressed to the Secretariat, National Treasury, Treasury Building, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi, or hand-delivered to the second floor of the Treasury Building.
A soft copy of the application should also be emailed to [email protected].
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The advert warns that canvassing in any form, or failure to attach any of the stipulated documents, will lead to automatic disqualification.
