Allan Kiprotich Tuiyot alias Saffron (L) and his co-accused Evans Ambani before a court in Eldoret An Eldoret businessman-cum-farmer and his employee have been charged with manslaughter in connection with the killing of a manager at a top hotel in the city two weeks ago.
Allan Kiprotich Tuiyot, alias Saffron, and his co-accused, Evans Ambani, denied the manslaughter charge when they appeared before Resident Magistrate Rodger Otieno.
Otieno freed the two on a Sh600,000 cash bail with one surety each, pending their trial before the Chief Magistrate’s Court next month.
“They can be released once they comply with the court terms pending their case before the Chief Magistrate on September 8, 2026,” Otieno said.
According to court documents, the two were charged that on August 8, 2026, at Kipkorgot area in Ainabkoi subcounty, Uasin Gishu county, they jointly and unlawfully killed Peter Liariman Sema.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court was packed with family members, friends and neighbours of the suspects eager to know their fate.
The two were among five suspects arrested by police detectives attached to Naiberi police station over the grisly killing of the hotel manager in what is suspected to be a love triangle.
Three of their alleged accomplices, including Tuiyot’s wife, Betty Jeptoo, were acquitted by the magistrate’s court after it emerged they were not at the scene of the incident.
Others freed by the court for lack of sufficient evidence linking them to the killing were Jackson Sifuna and Fredrick Seroney.
Liariman’s body was found lying near Kipkorgot trading centre, a few metres from his car and near the businessman’s home along the Eldoret-Eldama Ravine road.
Police suspect he was beaten to death at the house of the first accused, where investigators found blood stains.
Investigating officer Eric Ruto had told the court that the deceased’s Toyota Axio, which was white in colour, was parked about 150 metres from where the body was found near Kipkorgot centre.
The deceased worked as the chief accountant at one of the leading hotels in Eldoret.
Tuiyot, who is also a professional hotelier, presented himself at Naiberi police station in the presence of his lawyer.
A few hours later, his wife, who works at a supermarket in Eldoret, also presented herself at the same police station. They were both detained until the case came up in court yesterday.
