USPresident Donald Trumpannounced that American flags would be flown at half-staff across the United States in honour of Parton.
In a social media post following news of her death, Trump described Parton as one of the greatest country singers and said her death was a loss to millions of people.
“There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”
Trump said the flags would be lowered from 6 pm on August 25 for one week. A presidential proclamation later confirmed that the flags would remain at half-staff until sunset on September 1, 2026. The order covers federal buildings, military facilities, naval vessels and US diplomatic facilities abroad.

Days before her death, she spoke publicly about still having ambitions and wanting to accomplish more.
A legacy beyond music
Parton’s influence extended far beyond her recordings. She founded the Dollywood theme park in Tennessee and created the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a literacy programme that has distributed more than 170 million books to children since its launch in 1995.
She also contributed $1 million towards research that helped support the development of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.
Parton won 11 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Her career crossed music, film, business and philanthropy.
