Angela Mulwa, Chris Mulwa, and their mother, Rose Mbithe Mulwa, were arraigned at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following a decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to charge them with murder.

The DPP informed the court on Monday that a murder case had been registered at the Nairobi High Court against Mbithe and her two children, advocates Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa.

The DPP subsequently withdrew an earlier application seeking additional time to detain Angela Mulwa while investigations were being completed.

The prosecution said the decision to charge the three was based on evidence gathered during the investigations that it said linked them to the alleged offence.
Dr Mutiso, a psychiatrist and former Director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health, was fatally shot in Nairobi on July 29, 2026.
The court heard on Monday that preliminary investigations had established that Dr Mutiso was involved in a land dispute that was pending before a court in Machakos.
Before her death, Dr Mutiso had also reported an incident in which two armed individuals riding a motorcycle allegedly confronted her while she was driving in Nairobi.
