For Kenyan content creator Kelvin Kinuthia, fashion has long been more than what he wears. It has become part of how he expresses himself, even as his appearance has repeatedly attracted questions and criticism.
Kinuthia rose to fame for creating content while wearing dresses, wigs, make-up, heels and other outfits traditionally associated with women. His style quickly became a talking point online, with some people questioning his sexuality and others criticising his decision to dress outside conventional expectations.
But over the years, Kinuthia has increasingly appeared comfortable with his choices.
“Why should I feel weird?”
In a 2024 question-and-answer session, Kinuthia explained that he does not feel uncomfortable wearing a wig or dress because the decision is his.
He also asked people to stop focusing on defining his gender, saying they should stick to what they already know about him instead of constantly questioning him.
When the questions became part of his journey
Kinuthia's journey has not been without criticism.
In 2025, comments made by pastor Robert Burale about his dressing resurfaced online. Burale had previously questioned Kinuthia's decision to wear women's clothing during an interview.
Rather than turning the old remarks into another confrontation, Kinuthia responded with laughter when a fan reminded him about the incident.
That reaction reflected a noticeable change in how he handles conversations about his appearance.
The questions have also extended beyond fashion.
In February 2026, Kinuthia spoke about the reactions he receives when presenting his identification card. He joked about wanting to change the name on his ID because people sometimes react with disbelief when they see it.
Choosing happiness over explanations
Kinuthia has consistently separated his personal choices from the assumptions people make about him.
In an earlier interview, he said he could not control what people thought about his sexuality and that he was comfortable keeping some parts of his personal life private.
His approach has also been shaped by the support he received from his family.
Kinuthia previously revealed that his mother supported his style and even bought dresses for him. He said he had admired women wearing make-up from a young age and had sometimes worn his mother's clothes.
