Living together for years does not automatically make a couple legally married in Kenya, Family Lawyer Lynn Nganga says. She explains that the law does not recognize “come we stay” as a distinct form of marriage. Nganga says couples seeking legal recognition must prove a presumption of marriage, particularly during succession or separation disputes. She advises couples to formally register their unions to avoid future legal complications.
