Medical professionals are calling for strengthened newborn screening and early diagnosis of sickle cell anaemia within the first six weeks of life to reduce complications. Speaking during the ongoing Kenya Health Summit, oncologist Dr. Brenda Misori said late diagnosis has led to many patients seeking care after suffering strokes and recurrent pain. Kenya records approximately 14,000 sickle cell anaemia cases, with the highest burden reported in 17 counties across Western Kenya and Nyanza.
