Africa risks falling further behind in the global AI race, with generative AI adoption standing at 15.4 per cent in the Global South, compared to 27.5 per cent in the Global North in early 2026. Microsoft says closing the gap will require investment in digital infrastructure, skills, local data and responsible AI systems.
